Rest Wasn’t Enough—The Missing Care Behind My Fatigue【Ep.27】: Why Daniel Stayed Strong on a Simple Diet

📻 This article is written as a companion piece to Podcast Episode 27,
“Why Do Some People Seem to Thrive? — Daniel’s Choice for Happiness While Rising in an Enemy Nation.”

If you haven’t listened to the episode yet,
you can start here 👇

How did you find today’s episode?

The kind of person who seems to overcome any adversity and keep moving forward—
perhaps their secret comes down to just one thing:
choosing to love God and rely on Him, no matter the circumstances.

“Whoever tries to keep their life will lose it,
and whoever loses their life will preserve it.”

Luke 17:33 (NIV)

It’s a strikingly paradoxical statement—
and at first glance, it can feel quite difficult to grasp, can’t it?

And yet, speaking from my own experience, since I began believing in God,
I’ve found that life has gone far more smoothly—and I’ve been able to live with a deeper sense of happiness—
than when I was desperately chasing my own happiness or trying to take care of myself on my own terms.

As I mentioned in the podcast, there’s a particularly memorable moment in the story of Daniel that appears in this episode.

It’s the episode where, despite living on a very modest diet,
Daniel and his companions grow healthier and stronger than everyone else around them.

“Please test your servants for ten days:
Give us nothing but vegetables to eat and water to drink.
Then compare our appearance with that of the young men who eat the royal food,
and treat your servants in accordance with what you see.”

So he agreed to this and tested them for ten days.

At the end of the ten days they looked healthier and better nourished
than any of the young men who ate the royal food.

Daniel 1:11–15 (NIV)

And in fact, this isn’t something only “special people” get to experience.

In my own life as well, since I began walking in faith,
I’ve noticed that I no longer need as much sleep or as much food as I once did.

To my own surprise, I found that even when I stayed active all day,
I hardly felt tired at all.
The stiffness in my shoulders and that lingering sense of fatigue almost completely disappeared.

I used to be quite frail—
I tired easily, and no matter how much I slept, I always felt exhausted.
But after I began setting aside time to pray and read God’s Word,
a long-standing health condition that had once troubled me seriously was healed.
Now, I’m filled with so much energy—both physically and mentally—that people around me are often amazed.

A few weeks after I came across a blog written by Rapt-san
and began praying simply by following along as best I could,
I noticed that even with just four or five hours of sleep,
I felt completely fine and could move through my day with clarity and energy.

What’s more, I hadn’t changed anything else in my daily life.

And yet, the transformation was so dramatic that I couldn’t help but think,
“God really does exist…”
It was something I felt naturally, without forcing myself to believe it.

Doesn’t this sound a little like Daniel’s story?

Rather than focusing on indulging ourselves or eating rich foods,
living for God seems to lead—paradoxically—to better health and renewed strength.

So why does this happen?

It’s because just as each of us has a physical body,
each of us also has a spirit.

I also go into this topic in more detail in Podcast Episode 7 📻
“Why Do We Give Up So Easily? — The Real Reason We Can’t Do the Good We Want to Do.”

That said, for those hearing the word “spirit” for the first time,
you might be thinking, “What does that even mean?” or “Is this some kind of occult idea?”

But in fact, the Bible speaks very clearly about the spirit in many places.

Just as our physical bodies need food to eat,
and need to be kept clean through things like bathing,
our spirit also needs proper “maintenance.”

So then—what exactly nourishes the spirit?

The Bible gives a clear answer to that as well.

“I am the living bread that came down from heaven.
Whoever eats this bread will live forever.”

John 6:51 (NIV)

Of course, our physical bodies will one day die and return to dust.
So when Jesus speaks of “living forever” here,
it’s natural to understand this as referring to our spirit.

And this “bread” of the spirit—its true nourishment—
is God’s Word, and the love of God.

Rapt-san explains the nature of the spirit—and how we can truly live in health and happiness—
in a way that is both logical and firmly grounded in real life.

For me personally, simply knowing this—versus not knowing it—
felt like a complete 180-degree turn in my life.

As my spirit began to come alive and regain its strength,
the feeling that I had been carrying heavy burdens all on my own slowly faded away.
Both physically and mentally, life began to feel lighter and lighter.

These days, we’re surrounded by dark news, rising prices,
and many people find themselves wondering,
“How am I supposed to live from here on?”

And yet, even in times like these,
those who come to understand the principles of the God who created this world,
who love Him rightly and live according to His Word,
can remain healthy in both body and mind—and live with enduring happiness.

If you’ve been thinking,
“Lately, I just feel drained and tired,”
or “There’s a vague sense of emptiness I can’t shake,”
I invite you to take a moment to learn about your own spirit,
to receive God’s love,
and to experience that feeling of strength welling up from within.

I should add that I was never comfortable with religion or spirituality to begin with.
At the same time, I couldn’t seem to find happiness on my own,
and life felt persistently painful and empty.

I didn’t believe what I read on RAPT-blog right away, either.

But as I put these teachings into practice—thoroughly and sincerely—
one thing after another began to happen,
events so tangible and undeniable that I could no longer avoid acknowledging
the real existence of God.

That’s why I want as many people as possible to know how incredible God truly is.
And more than that,
I want people to know that there is a path where every sincere effort is rewarded,
and where a truly happy life is possible.

With that hope in mind, I continue sharing through this podcast and blog.

Thank you so much for reading all the way to the end 😆
